Swahili Consultant & Cultural Guide
Nairobi, Kenya Β· Teaching since 2018
My name is Peris Muthoni, and I have been teaching Kiswahili and East African history since 2018. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Arts with a specialisation in Kiswahili and History β a combination that lets me connect language to culture in ways a textbook never could.
Born and raised in Kenya, I have spent my career helping students, travellers, diplomats and expats not just speak Swahili, but truly understand the people, places and history behind the words.
My history degree gives me a deep understanding of the Swahili Coast, the pre-colonial kingdoms of East Africa, the impact of Arab and Indian Ocean trade, and Kenya's path to independence. I bring this knowledge alive in every session.
For travellers and expats planning to visit Kenya or East Africa, I offer practical, insider advice on the best safaris, hidden-gem hotels, cultural etiquette and how to connect with local communities respectfully and meaningfully.
